Tour of the North and Northeast

Starting off in Chiangmai for the Northbound tour and travelers have a choice for cultural route as well as nature exploration. The North is a mountainous area where rare orchids grow freeform. In the old days, people travelled on elephant’s back and its handler known as ‘Mahout’ was famously coming from this region.
The Northeast of Thailand is the most populous area of the country and best travelled from Bangkok as it is more eastward than the North. People speak with different dialect than the North and more ‘loud’ in their expression than the soft-spoken Northerners. The Northeast or ‘Isan’ region in Thai combines traditional values and unique food cultures that make its people very different from other regions.

The North and the Northeast of Thailand are known for local folks’ cultural events to primarily celebrate the ploughing season which starts in the beginning of the Rainy-Season. Communities are bonded by activities on the temple grounds. Unavoidably, local folks gather to hold ceremonies or fairs on the temple grounds which are worth to visit.
